Each bluebot has ultrasonic coupling pads to assure the ultrasonic signal travels smoothly from the transducer into the pipe where flow is measured. You will notice that once you remove the protective plastic film from the pads, they are a bit sticky. This is to assure quality connection to the pipe as bluebot clamps on and tightly presses against the pipe.
Air is the enemy of ultrasonic sound transmission. This is that same reason when ultrasound is used to check up on unborn babies, gel is used. Any air or bubbles or dirt will disrupt the ultrasonic signal. In some cases, when Signal Quality or Signal Strength are poor, we recommend applying sonic coupling compound on top of the sonic pads. Assure the pipe is clean and dirt/dust free, apply the compound generously like toothpaste on a brush to each pad. Clamp bluebot on and run a “Rescan” of the pipe.
